Put your attention where it can work.
Attention management starts before focus. Decide what deserves direct action, one bounded attempt, light observation, or no more attention.
First Attention tool
The Attention Bull's Eye
Start with one thing taking up mental space. The tool turns the classification into an attention plan you can save, revisit, and continue with Coach.
How the four zones work
Separate action from background vigilance.
An item you can act on should not sit beside an outcome you can only wait for. The Bull's Eye gives each kind of attention pull a different rule.
- Control
- You can decide or complete the next step yourself.
- Act now or schedule the action.
- Influence
- Your effort can change the odds, but someone or something else owns the outcome.
- Make one attempt and set an effort limit.
- Observe
- A named signal or review date would change your next decision.
- Schedule one check and stop monitoring between checks.
- Ignore
- No useful action or decision signal remains.
- Mute, remove, or stop reopening it.
Attention management FAQ
Questions behind the placement.
The useful distinction is not whether an item matters. It is whether action, a bounded attempt, a future signal, or disengagement is the right response now.
What is the difference between attention management and time management?
Time management allocates hours after priorities are chosen. Attention management decides what is allowed to occupy those hours and what does not deserve another check.
How is the Attention Bull's Eye different from a circle of control exercise?
A circle of control usually separates what you control from what you do not. This tool adds Influence for bounded attempts, Observe for dated signals, and Ignore for inputs that need no further attention.
Should a waiting outcome go in Observe or Ignore?
Use Observe only when you can name the signal or review date that would change a decision. If no signal would change what you do, Ignore closes the checking loop.
Can I move an item after placing it?
Yes. The map stores multiple items, lets you move or delete them, and updates the suggested next move as the map changes.
